The founder and editor of the Online Bibliography of Anime and Manga Studies (originally the Anime/Manga Web Essay Arhive), Mikhail Koulikov, holds a master's degree in library science from the School of Library and Information Science, Indiana University, Bloomington. He is also a graduate of George Washington University (BA, International Affairs) and of Stuyvesant High School. His own research is in the fields of social informatics, social epistemology, and comparative bibliometrics, and he has been published in Law Library Journal, Transformative Works and Cultures, and several professional magazines/newsletters. Professionally, Mr. Koulikov is a librarian at a New York City law library.

In addition, Mikhail has extensive experience as an anime journalist, writing news items, reviews, event reports and feature articles for the Anime News Network. He has also been a volunteer, staff member, and department head at one of the major North American anime conventions.
